Metropolitan Museum of Art Repro of Nepal Uma Parvati Hindu Goddess Statue
Brown Turquoise Amber Size: 11 x 14H
1988
Fantastic quality bronze statue sold by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1988, after the Nepalese original dating to the 9th or 10th century. The statue depicts a seated figure of Uma, mother goddess and consort of Shiva, with whom she was originally depicted as one figural grouping. The bronze is very detailed and well done, with regal facial features, ornate flowery openwork headdress, and little orange and turquoise color gems adorning the goddess' jewelry. This bronze would have been a very high end item from the MMA, rendered so faithful and very nearly life-size to the original as it is.
